It is no coincidence that LNS established itself in the Jura Arc region. To be near its customers and their technical knowhow was vital. In December 1972, three friends, Mr. Léchot (L), Mr. Neukomm (N) and Mr. Scemama (S), came together with the intention of developing, assembling and distributing mechanical bar loaders for precision-machining used by watch-makers in the Jura region. This idea became reality when manufacturing activities were launched in Orvin in January 1973. The watch-making crisis of 1974 affected the activities of the business and pushed it in a new direction with the help of a young and ingenious precision-machining technician named Mr. Philippe Scheurer. In 1975, following the contractual acquisition of Mr. Scheurer’s patents, LNS invented the first hydraulic bar feeder, better known as the Hydrobar®.
5th AXIS
5th Axis was founded in 2004 as a CNC job shop with just one machine. Fifteen years later, they have expanded to over fifty 3-, 4-, and 5- axis machines manufacturing many different parts on a daily basis. This success has come largely through innovation. Established in 2020, one of the toughest years in recent history, Octane Workholding has an ambitious goal to help lift up the manufacturing trade through education and innovative products. Our story did not begin in 2020, however, it began over 40 years ago in 1980 as many businesses do, with humble beginnings. A second-generation machine shop, our family business began its journey welding farm equipment and doing general repairs. As the years passed, our work began shifting toward building bespoke equipment. Our reputation for quality work spread and a long-lasting customer base was established. As the equipment became more complex, machining became a larger part of the process. Starting with manual machines and eventually shifting toward CNC machining. It quickly became apparent that there was a lot to learn. We were up for the challenge, but things would not be easy. Before YouTube and Google search made information more readily available, things were challenging at times. After machining thousands of parts and gaining experience, we learned what tools were needed to succeed as Machinists. We developed value added products for our own use that are now available for everyone. Our educational materials are aimed at lessening the steep learning curve of this trade. The world saw more technological advancement in 100 years than in all recorded history through manufacturing. While we may not be part of the next great advancement for humanity, perhaps teaching an aspiring Engineer, will lead to one. Providing the tools for brilliant individuals to go out and make an idea a reality, is something we are committed to.
